Queen Adelaide Public House

A planning application has been submitted to demolish the Queen Adelaide and replace it with a new block including a shop on the ground floor and three 1-bedroom and three 3-bedroom flats on the two upper floors.  The High Street is a conservation area so the plan could be refused if the planners decide that the present edwardian frontage adds to the character of the area.  If you want to see the proposals, click on the planning applications link in the right hand column, enter the planning application number   08/03330  and tghen click search at the bottom of the page.   Let us know your comments.

Having looked at the proposal, would appear that this would be a vast improvement for the area ( of course depending on the final retail usage of the site ). The Queen Adelaide has always been a place to walk past as quickly as possible. For me the current tatty facade drunks, dogs, plastic chairs adds no (or at least the wrong) "character" to the area.
The revamped opticians, smartened up funeral shop on the corner, and the new site of Mems barbers, even the new bookies, all show a great direction for this little parade - hopefully once the fire damage can be repaired for the Londis, Timber yard and old site of Mems, this will really help transform this strip.

The Queen Adelaide pub has lots of happy memories for me and lots of locals back in the 70s & 80s, we made lots of good friends there too, but sad to say pub life is so different now, and it will be sad to see it go, many people would like to see the frontage restored to it's former glory days, it would add lots of character in the "mix" of old and modern frontages that are already there, plus add a bonus when the other frontages are repaired after the fire damage, I don't think it's a bad idea some times to go back to old styles of architecture and basics.
