29th June – Mayor of Poole Rewards Innovation
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, attended the 14th annual Festival of Design and Innovation at Bournemouth University, Poole. She was met by the newly appointed Pro Vice- Chancellor Professor Nick Petford and Chancellor Paul Curran.
One of the visit's highlights was the appearance and lecture given by our own well-loved Jonny "Playaway" Ball, a Professor, engineer and inventor in his own right. The Mayor was greeted by Mr Ball and together they sang the theme tune, the Mayor suggesting that he give his presentation through the ‘round window'!! Those of you who don't understand this speak to your parents!!
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I was privileged in being asked to view the many inventions designed by our local entrepreneurial young students. From a tent that puts itself up, handy for all budding boy scouts both young and old, to a temporary door lock, a portable device to be used whenever you require a little privacy! The standard of work and commitment is staggering, I was amazed at how many of these inventions are being snapped up commercially, http://www.dec.bournemouth.ac.uk/ a truly mind expanding experience".
29th June - Mayor of Poole Rattles her Chains
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, presided over and presented an Insignia talk at the Civic Centre regarding the history of the Mayoralty. She was supported by her mace bearer and chauffeur Mr David Knight who described in perfect detail the Civic Regalia and our Chief Executive Mr John McBride who gave an excellent ‘Striving for Excellence' corporate address.
The talk was attended by members of the Society of Poole Men at their request with their guest from Salisbury Civic Society,. This is a very popular event in which the Mayor describes the history of the Mayoralty, chains, badges and other items of regalia (see the Mayor's web pages on www.boroughofpoole.com/mayor for further information).
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "The first Poole Council and the Mayoralty was created in 1248 by the Longspee Charter. 758 years later, I am proud to be part of that continuing tradition. I always love to share our heritage, and I'm greatly honoured that so many people want to know about the ancient history of our Council and our beautiful town."

29th June - Mayor of Poole ‘On The Buses’
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, attended a Showcase of Independent Travel Training organised by Bournemouth and Poole College.
The Mayor gave a poignant presentation regarding her own sons and the challenges she faces as a mother regarding the courage required to ‘let go' enabling them to complete this excellent training scheme. She presented the award winning certificates at the Study Gallery to Schools and Colleges who have undertaken to provide ‘travel training' within their curriculum and also to the individual achievers to mark their completion/working towards their independent travel training certificate.
The training helps people with learning difficulties to use public transport. Several of the award winners talked about their experiences, and a most amusing role-play by tutors demonstrated the type of behaviour the training corrects.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I have two amazing sons both with learning difficulties, and when I asked both of them if I could borrow one of their bus passes for the day, they both flatly refused to be parted from their coveted passes, as they needed them - despite much pleading I failed dismally to extricate the said passes from them and I had to borrow one from the organisers to use in my presentation! This training, with the assistance available nowadays, gives people much more freedom to run their own lives than ever before, my deepest thanks to all the many partners involved."

26th June - Mayor of Poole Celebrates Success
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with Poole Council Chief Executive John McBride, presented certificates to about 30 members of Poole Council staff at the Civic Centre.
The Mayor, supported by Councillors, Council officers and staff, congratulated and awarded certificates of achievement to members of staff who had gained professional qualifications.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I can't remember when I was last in a room with so many ‘ologies'! This is further proof that when we at Poole Council do something, we do it extremely well. I take my hat off to all those who have achieved or are working towards their own ‘ologies' within the Council, their accomplishments only enhance the already excellent services that our BOP staff offer our residents".

26th June – Mayor of Poole meets Newfound friend
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt entertained in her Parlour Mr Scott Murray a Ferndown police officer in celebration of 50 twinning with the town of Corner- Brook in Newfoundland. Scott a cycling coach is taking 130 cyclists to Corner Brook to take part in various International cycling events. Scott is a very fit and keen cyclist and welcomed the opportunity to meet our new Mayor a fellow modest cyclist and receive a Poole Dolphin and letter of congratulations to be given to the Mayor of Corner - Brook in Newfoundland.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt said " It was a pleasure to meet Scott and discuss a few tactics for the Tour de France and hear about his tremendous achievement in managing so many cyclists across the water. It was also heartening to see how well we work with our police partners in the community in encouraging our Poole communities to take up this cycling challenge. I have been promised a Newfoundland thimble for my thimble collection, but I am not entirely certain that they will have such an item, but Scott will be hunting high and low I hope!!"

25th June - Mayor of Poole Takes a Hike
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, and her family, started and took part in the ‘Walk in the Park' in Poole Park, organised by Diabetes UK.
The Mayor, accompanied by her family and friends, joined over 100 walkers to spend a dull and showery Sunday afternoon walking briskly around Poole park in this annual fund-raising event, earning a t-shirt and medallion for completing the course.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt " My late father was a diabetic and I witnessed the difficulty he had in leading a healthy normal life. I am most impressed by the attitude of today's diabetics who are so confident and courageous in dealing with their individual stages of diabetes. Despite the drizzle it was a great afternoon's exercise, I thoroughly enjoyed the wide selection of fruit and healthy snacks freely available after the walk, which was a welcome treat after everyone's exertions"

24th June – Mayor of Poole tries Gunboat Diplomacy
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, attended a reception on board the World War 2 Gunboat 81 as part of the Poole Afloat celebrations, sponsored by Haven Leisure who operate Rockley Park holiday resort.
The gunboat, owned by the Coastal Motorboat Heritage Trust, still carries some of the scars from its wartime combat service, and has been lovingly restored by enthusiast Phil Clabburn. The Mayor exchanged greetings with guests on board. The boat later took some of the guests out for a trip around the Harbour.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, later said "Sadly due to another Mayoral engagement I was unable to take to the water in this magnificent gunboat vessel. I did however take a tour of the interior and inspect the ‘heads' which were pristine! The work involved in restoring this boat is unbelievable and thanks to the dedication of our marine enthusiasts we now have a perfect example of WW2 maritime history".

24th June - Mayor of Poole All at Sea
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, participated in the Poole Afloat celebrations at Poole Quay.
The Mayor was invited to join Mr Pip Hall of Dorset Coastguards to demonstrate the capabilities of his vessel MCA Osprey on a tour around Poole Harbour and Poole Bay.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I was allowed under the strictest supervision to take the wheel and, despite the popular perception of women drivers, I managed to steer a steady course back into Poole Harbour. We are so very lucky in Poole to be served by such professionals. Their skill is amazing, as is their dedication to the safety of Poole Harbour and its people."

24th June - Mayor of Poole puts her best ‘Fete’ forward!
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, accompanied by her Consort David Butt opened the annual summer fete at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Poole.
The Mayor was delighted to cut a huge red ribbon to open the fete and addressed the assembled buyers and stall holders. She was married at the Church and all her children were christened there, and she recently had her marriage blessed to celebrate a certain number of years!
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said " It was a gorgeous hot sunny afternoon, the ice cream stall, amongst many others was a runaway success and the Church raised over £3500 for their many needy causes. Our Churches, Community Centres and Libraries to name only a few, form the vital central hubs of our communities and it was so great to see support from across the whole spectrum of our residents within all these communities."

24th June - Mayor of Poole’s Crowning Achievement
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, joined in a children's fancy dress event at Rossmore Library to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday.
The Mayor joined a group of young children from toddlers to teenagers, demonstrating her fancy-dress-making skills in making crowns, winning a prize in ‘pass the parcel', and taking part in musical bumps and other activities. She then judged the fancy dress competition, awarding prizes to a young King Arthur, Tiger Tim, and others.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "It was great to get back to the floor, quite literally, as I spent most of the morning on it, especially during the musical bumps at which I failed dismally. The children were beautifully dressed and behaved, a credit to their families, themselves and our own lovely Borough. I hope to be invited back very soon."

23rd June - Mayor of Poole is Off her Trolley!
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, spent a morning at the Poole Civic Centre auditioning as a tea lady, meeting many members of staff on the way.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt had expressed a wish to tour the building, giving staff a chance to meet their Mayor and to see the Mayoral chain at close quarters, and she was soon serving up tea, coffee and snack bars like a professional. She met staff, managers, Strategic Directors, and was even inspected by the Audit Commission! She was afterwards assessed as: Customer Focus - 10/10; Giving Product knowledge 6/10 (there is a huge selection to choose from!) correct change - 10/10; Trolley Driving skills- 3/10.
A collecting tin on the trolley for voluntary contributions raised £20 for the Mayor's charities.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "This was a brilliant morning and I enjoyed it immensely, my grateful thanks to our super teams of ladies who serve us so well day in and day our. I am afraid that I have to report that my supervisor Val said that although my attitude was good I wore far too much jewellery and I must concentrate much more on my driving!! I was unable to cover the whole building, but I am set to very soon assist another of our super tea lady team and will take another day to visit everyone else on the ground floor.........................................you have been warned!"

22nd June - Mayor of Poole Goes For a Song
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, attended a musical evening organised by Poole Scout Fellowship, and sang with the Winmoor Ladies Choir.
Following a superb programme of entertainment by the Choir, the oldest member of which is 95, a member of the audience commented that the Mayor had a good singing voice, and she was invited to join the Choir, singing ‘Edelweiss' in a beautiful soprano voice with backing from the Choir.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "There is such talent amongst these super ladies of the Choir, which ahs included many other musical stars such as Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Torrents' ‘Post Horn' and his dad's Gilbert & Sullivan ‘a policeman's lot is not a happy one'. David and I sang all the way home, much to the annoyance of our chauffeur!"

21st June - Mayor of Poole Pulls a Ticket!
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, attended a Cancer Research Fundraising event in Broadstone, drawing the raffle which, with the entry money, raised over £1000 for the charity.
After enjoying a delicious strawberry cream tea, the Mayor then took time to meet and speak with each guest, as they enjoying the warm sun and the superb hospitality of their host Mrs Angela Long in her lovely garden.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "An event like this takes a lot of organising, and the volunteers who organised it deserve all our thanks. Cancer seems to be so common place these days that many people are touched by it's effects, my own biological parents succumbed to cancer before their 40th birthdays in the 1970's , but thanks to Cancer Research UK and similar charities, people are less fearful and better informed as to how cancer can be treated and prevented"

20th June - Mayor of Poole’s Ups and Downs
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, cut a ribbon to open a new lift at the Peacock Tearooms, Upton Country Park, providing disabled access for the first time to the upstairs Art Gallery.
The lift was mainly funded by a donation of £14,000 provided by the Friends of Upton Country Park. The opening was attended by Councillors, Council officers, Tearoom staff and service users, many of the latter with learning difficulties. The Mayor took the lift upstairs, toured the gallery and made some suggestions to improve the use of the limited space, and talked with all of the service users present.
In a light-hearted speech, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "This evening is a truly uplifting experience! Seriously, I have had a long involvement with Upton Country Park, both as resident and Ward Councillor for Creekmoor, I must give credit to the Friends of Upton Country Park for their sterling efforts in raising the funds to make this possible.
I am known locally by my residents as ‘Lady Creekmoor' as I look after the only Ward with a Stately Home in it!!"

20th June - Mayor of Poole Meets with Success
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, attended the Bournemouth & Poole College's presentation of awards to Adult Achievers and met all of the award winners.
The award winners, all adult students of the College, ranged from teenagers to senior citizens. Every person has also overcome huge personal challenges, including disability and substance abuse, using education as a vehicle to rebuild their lives.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "This was so much more than a prize-giving ceremony, I was stunned when I heard some of the harrowing stories they had to tell. Their achievements are so much more than just passing an examination. I must also give credit to the tutors, family and friends of the award winners who have helped their students in far more than just teaching."

18th June - Mayor of Poole Parades through the Town
On a warm Sunday morning the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, her family, Councillors and officers from the Borough of Poole and invited guests from within and outside the Borough, assembled at the Guildhall for this year's Civic Service and Parade. Preceded by the Ringwood Pipers and the Salvation Army Band, they processed to St James Church for the service, exchanging greetings along the way with residents who turned out to watch.
The service was led by Rev Mason, pastor of St James. The Mayor, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, and the Sheriff read the lessons during the service, which had been especially chosen by the . The Giving Prayers were read beautifully by the Mayor's daughter, Miss Georgina Butt, and husband and Consort, David Butt. An uplifting and inspiring sermon was given by the Mayor's Chaplain, Father Mark of St Mary's Catholic Church. The Mayor personally chose all the readings, bidding prayers and hymns.
Afterwards the Civic party, Councillors and guests paraded along the Quay on the way back to the Guildhall, much to the bemusement of tourists enjoying the sunshine and attractions of Poole Quay who had no idea why a procession of people wearing odd-looking costumes were walking along the street. But residents and tourists alike thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle. The parade was followed by a reception at the Civic Centre.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I was gratified by the number of Councillors and guests who turned out, and I was moved by the lovely service. I have since received many letters of thanks from guests who had attended the service for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it."

16th June - Mayor of Poole meets Designing Students
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, opened the Bournemouth and Poole College Showcase of Computer Aided Design and Graphics. The Mayor spoke to every student from year 1 to year 4 of their degree courses and interacted with and viewed the many mediums used to design computer games, slick TV adverts, robotic animation and many other processes.
The Mayor was accompanied by Mr Roland Foot, Principal of Bournemouth and Poole College. Mr Foot was extremely impressed with the Mayor's approach to the students and understanding of their work and very kindly offered a generous donation to the Mayor's Charities, in recognition of Cllr Mrs Judy Butt's invaluable contribution and commitment to promoting and supporting our highly talented young people in the community.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt said "I am absolutely delighted to accept Mr Foot's very kind offer, the College is one of our greatest assets, we send our future visionaries to this wonderful College and regardless of subject or level, each and every person is empowered and enriched and given the confidence and skills to succeed and provide leadership for further generations to come"
15th June - Mayor of Poole - a New Model Mayor?
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, accompanied by her Consort Mr David Butt (the only man in the room) took part in a fashion show held in and sponsored by the Study Gallery in Poole, in aid of local charities supported by the Bournemouth and Poole College Foundation.
The Mayor modelled a pair of extremely tight ‘Sandra Dee' black drainpipe ‘chino' trousers and a cranberry lace sleeved skinny rib top. She was one of a selection of 7 lovely ladies from 17 years of age and well upwards also showing clothes and shoes to the best of their advantage.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, the Mayor of Poole said ‘"The moment I finished my turn I was thinking how good this would look on my CV; Politician, Legal Advisor and Fashion Model, although I have it on further advisement from another legal source that modelling one outfit does not technically mean I am a fully fledged fashion model, but I certainly had my 5 minutes........... well maybe 60 seconds of fame! My fellow model ladies were delightful and so brave and positive, they looked great in everything, I unfortunately did a fairly good impression of the ‘Road Runner' Cartoon but we all had fun on the evening and a substantial amount of money was raised for the charities."

13th June - Mayor of Poole Hits The Rocks!
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, recently visited Rockley Park in Hamworthy, for a briefing and tour of the newly-refurbished facilities.
Since being taken over by major leisure company Bourne Leisure Group, the new management have worked hard to improve the quality, facilities and image of the Park, resulting in a top-quality caravan resort. Rockley Park offers all of the facilities expected of a leading resort, with ready access to Poole, Bournemouth and surrounding areas for shopping and further entertainment. They are also aware of the need to engage with local residents, and are keen to be involved with the communities of Hamworthy and Poole. General Manager Geoffrey Smith commented that each of his 50,000 visitors a year spends an average of £200 in the town, which benefits Poole and its residents.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "The refurbished Park is a delight, and a leading resort such as this is good for the image and economy of Poole. We need to ensure that such a forward-looking enterprise is made to feel part of the town and business community of Poole".

13th June - Mayor of Poole Gets a Pizza the Action
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, recently opened a new restaurant in Poole High Street, Ma's Pizza and Pasta Restaurant.
The Mayor cut a ribbon to open the restaurant, toured the kitchens, and sampled the food provided for the occasion. She met the kitchen and waiting staff, including trainee chefs, and talked to customers attending the opening. Restaurant Manager Domonic Naylor described the weeks of effort and attention to detail that led up to the opening.
Later, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "The food is delicious and it's encouraging to see a high-quality restaurant offering good food at affordable prices. I am particularly delighted to find younger people being given a chance under supervision of more experienced staff. I will be coming back in the future."

12th June - Mayor of Poole Beaten by her Chauffeur!
At her Mayor's Charity Bowling Evening held recently at Bowlplex, Branksome, the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, and her team finished a creditable fourth overall in the results. However, she was disconcerted to find her chauffeur and macebearer Mike Weetham stepping up to claim the trophy!
An evening of enjoyable and healthy exercise did not prevent the competition from being close and hard-fought, with the eventual winning teams being Buddies (League) and Backward Rollers (non-League). The event was a resounding success, raising over £550 for the Mayor of Poole's charities, and bringing the total raised for the Appeal Fund to almost £4900 since 16th May.
Presenting the awards, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "We had a lot of fun and raised a good amount of money for charity at the same time. The skill and energy of all of the teams was superb, and the winning teams thoroughly deserved the recognition, although it will take me a while to live this down!"

11th June - Mayor of Poole Steps Into the Lead
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, yesterday took part with her husband and children in the Rotary Club's Harbourside Community Walk from Upton House to Sandbanks - and finished fastest in about 2 hours 20 minutes! She was accompanied all the way by pacesetter and Rotarian Richard Sheldon.
Seventeen walkers, most of them sponsored, took part in a delightfully scenic walk of over 7 miles in support of the Rotary Club's selected local charity, the RYA's ‘On-Board' sail training scheme. On a beautiful sunny morning, the Mayor completed the course in a record time, finishing in first place.
Accepting her certificate from Rotarian John Duckenfield, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt said "Although a fairly early start, the weather was perfect and I suffered only one tiny well-earned blister! The Rotary Club are a superb group and it is an honour to support them in their endeavours".

10th June - Mayor of Poole Gets in a Row
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, on Saturday took great pleasure in presenting over 25 awards to rowing crews in different categories ranging from 16-year-old novices to very experienced teams. The weather was very warm, although there was a strong breeze which made the waters of Poole Park Lake quite choppy.
While presenting awards, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt said "The contestants' amazing talent, enthusiasm and impeccable sportsmanship have produced a real achievement for all who took part. My congratulations to everyone. This event was exceptionally well organised, with a dedicated team providing a super day out for all concerned."
The Mayor went on to say "I am greatly honoured to be appointed Honorary President of Poole Rowing Club for this year. Unfortunately, I am to rowing what a rhinosaurus is to tap dancing! I am always ready to have a go however, and my son Charlie, who rows for local sea cadets, has agreed to try on my behalf. "

6th June - Mayor of Poole Lays Wreaths with D-Day Veterans
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt and her Consort and husband Mr David Butt, visited Cherbourg to participate in the D-day commemorations at the Normandy battlefields of 1944. They were accompanied by 16 year old Tom Newman, a Sea cadet from TS Drax Poole, who is serving as a Mayor's Escort and Mr Ted Thurston.
On arrival on June 5th, they were greeted by the Mayor of Cherbourg Monsieur Bernard Cazaneuve, and the Deputy Mayor Jean-Claude Magalhaes and many other French officials. They were escorted on a superb tour of the Cherbourg Hotel de Ville (Town Hall), following which the Mayor of Poole Cllr Mrs Judy Butt was invited to give press interviews with local papers, radio and television.
The Mayor and Consort visited the WW2 battlefield site St Mere Eglise, commemorating the invasion by American and International paratroops to liberate France on 5th June 1944, leading to a battle which raged for twenty-four hours until American tanks arrived on 6th June. One American soldier, John Steele of 82nd Division, caught his parachute on the church steeple and hung there as a target for German troops for over two hours until, wounded numerous times, he was taken prisoner. John Steele survived his ordeal and lived until 1969, but his original parachute still hangs from the steeple with a dummy soldier attached. On D-Day June 6th 2006, the Mayor and her Consort attended a memorial service at Bayeux Cathedral, and laid wreaths at Bayeux Cemetery, accompanied by Tom Newman and Ted Thurston from Christchurch, a veteran of the Normandy beaches and holder of the French Legion d'Honneur, on behalf of the Military Police and all fallen comrades. The Mayor, with the official military party, met and personally thanked every veteran standing within the war memorial official commemorative circle for their courage and sacrifice; the oldest standard bearer being some 89 years old.
At the War Memorial at Arromanches, the Mayor Cllr Mrs Judy Butt was deeply honoured to be asked to lay a wreath with a small group of senior political and military figures. Later, the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Butt said "I was among only eight leading international political and military figures to be given the amazing honour of laying a wreath in memory of the some half a million fallen soldiers who died on that cold June day in 1944. My own dear adopted father, Major John Henry Oldershaw-Gilbert, was a veteran of Dunkirk and a Desert rat of the 8th Army. Although I laid my floral wreath to commemorate all who gave their lives so unconditionally for the communities of Poole, it was with a special thought for my own dear brave father who so sadly passed away in 1976 at only 62 years of age, giving so much that I may live and thrive in the next generation and be part of future generations to come".

4th June - Mayor of Poole Rewards Runaway Success
At Sunday's Festival of Running held in Poole Park, Cllr Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, spent the day as guest of honor, starting the races and presenting the awards at the end of the day.
In presenting awards to the winning athletes, the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, said "I am honored at having been invited to participate in the 25th Anniversary of the Festival. Every contestant here has given of their best, and they are all winners in their own right regardless of their finishing position."

3rd June - Mayor of Poole’s Charity Car Boot Resounding Success
The first of a series of monthly car boot sales was held last Saturday for the Mayor of Poole's Charity Appeal, and proved to be even more successful than could have been predicted. With over 60 sellers and hundreds of buyers turning up on a hot sunny day, the event raised nearly £600 for the Mayor's charities.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, introduced herself to all the stallholders, many of them already friends from previous events, and said
"I am stunned by the fantastic turnout; there were even people waiting at the gates at 6am, and everyone is so bright and cheerful. We have had to overcome some minor glitches in advertising, but we will correct those for next time".
The next car boot sale for the Mayor of Poole's Charity Appeal will be on Saturday July 1st at Creekmoor Park and Ride, starting at 7am for sellers and 8am for buyers. Sellers are charged £5 for a car, or £7 for a small van or car with small trailer.

2nd June - Mayor of Poole Opens a New Chapter for Library
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, accompanied by the Sheriff, ward councillors, Library Manager and staff, opened the newly re-furbished Canford Heath Library.
After battling for a number of years for the badly-needed work to be done, everybody was delighted with the achievement. The Mayor spent some time exploring the library, admiring the new facilities and painting a cartoon rabbit for the children enjoying the half term leisure facilities provision.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt said "The new, updated facilities here, especially the Internet terminals, will encourage young people to use the library. Curiously, the shortage of books in many households today will motivate people to come to the library for information".

1st June - Mayor of Poole makes some new Friends
Cllr Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, was elected Honorary President of the Poole Hospital League of Friends at their recent AGM for the year 2006/07.
In addressing the Friends the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, said: "The role of the volunteer is sadly becoming more difficult to fill with so many personal commitments needing to be meet by our communities. The League and many more superb selfless bodies just like them are always looking for more people to swell the numbers and share the workload."

1st June - Mayor of Poole gets a Dressing Down
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, took part in the annual "Dress the Mayor" competition, in which local charity shops compete for the best outfit for the Mayor chosen from their own stock. The competition was won by the PDSA charity shop in Poole High Street with a navy and white striped summer dress, with coordinated shoes and handbag.
The Mayor took a lively interest in the shop's wares, advising the staff on some of the older porcelain objects, and buying a hat before leaving.
Presenting the award, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt said "I admit to being a regular customer in our charity shops, and the quality of their goods is second to none. They play a crucial role in providing high quality goods at sensible prices, while contributing the proceeds to deserving causes."
