28th March - Mayor of Poole Gets Eggs-cited
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, attended the Girl Guides Easter Eggstravaganza at Ad Astra School in Canford Heath.
Run by several Girl Guide troops in Canford Heath as a fundraising venture, the Eggstravaganza consisted of lots of fun stalls and games with an Easter theme. With 2 Rainbows, 4 Brownies and 3 Guides troops present representing 120 members, the Girl Guides actually have a waiting list of children wanting to join, but are restricted by the number of adult leaders and are keen to recruit more.
Having been greeted by District Commissioner Michelle Way and the Easter Bunny, the Mayor toured the stalls, failing miserably at the tombola and ‘pick an egg' stalls but confounding the youngsters by announcing that she had won lots of ‘Sorry' tickets. The Mayor then went on to judge the Easter Bonnet and Decorated Egg competitions, making difficult choices from among the stiff competition. With the prizes presented, the Mayor was surprised and delighted when Michelle announced that the proceeds from the event would be donated to the Mayor's Charities.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "A huge thank you to everyone who made this event such a lovely evening, my stomach pained a little at the end of the event from all the laughter that we shared. The girls were brilliant and very sporting when a winner was chosen in each category, it's hard to have to concede to not winning when all the entrants were such a high standard. I have to say how humbled I was to be told that the proceeds of £140 were to go towards my three charities when I know how very hard it is for organisations such as the guides to raised funds, my deepest thanks to them, the girls and all mums, dads, family and friends who are constantly working to enhance the lives of others and providing a huge benefit for our local communities."
