My First Entry

Well this is my first entry into the WebLog. My name is Paul Crossley and I am leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Bath and North East Somerset Council. I also lead a three party joint administration. I have been active in politics since the age of 16 when I first started campaigning on environmental issues and protesting against nuclear power, nuclear weapons and the war in Vietnam. 38 years later I am appalled that the Labour Government is considering a new wave of nuclear power stations and our Government has still not woken up to the serious nature of the environmental issues affecting the planet.

My New Years resolution this year was to Carbon Offset all the miles I travel in may car - a white p reg 1.4 Rover and also any flights I might take. My preferred mode of travel is first foot, second bike, third bus or train, fourth lift share and finally using my own car. This month I have made train journeys to Taunton, London, Lincoln and Gainsborough. All journeys were on time though some were overcrowded and fares into London are hugely expensive!! If the Labour Government carries out its plans to decimate the rail network then I imagine in a few years the rail links to Gainsborough and Llncoln will be history. That would be a tragedy for common sense!

I represent a ward called Southdown in Bath and the picture below is taken at the Roundhill. Together with my fellow ward Councillor, Dine Romero, we are starting down the road of establishing this site as a local area nature reserve.
