Buses and Lights

First have changed some of their routes. The Hollow is now served by the no 4 which comes from Bathampton. I have had several commplaints that the new service is not so reliable on time as the old service and so am working with the operators to solve the pinch point problems. On a good note the increasing ridership and demand for stops has lead to yet another two stops being put in place.

The strret lights at the top of SLadebrook went out on Wednesday. A resident repotrted them to me very swiftly and they have been fixed by Friday evening.

Haycombe Cemetry

The charges for cremations at our cemetry are rising. They still represent very good value when compared with our competitors at Taunton, Bristol and Weston Super Mare. I got phoned by the Weston Daily Press and other media for a comment on this.

In addition we have just put in state of the art cremation machinery and new lifts to move the coffins up and down. This means that the air coming out of the flues will be much cleaner. Furthermore we can now cater for much larger people than we were able to. This means that grieving families will have a much better service. One of the consequences of our gaining weight as a population is of course a demand for much larger coffins.

Our new service will be one of the very best Council services in the country.

We are also supporting local charities such as Dorothy House and Babe Appeal with the metal by products such as teeth fillings which of course do not turn to ash and is a result of our increased dental requirements during life.

Mout Road Mast

The Mobile operators have got back to Dine and myself. They have checked out our suggestion of a mast at Haycombe cemetry and it works for their requirements. We are therefore expecting them to withdraw the option on Mount Road and submit an application for the cemetry site. Here it will only have 2 houses withinn 30 yards and will be masked by trees.

So a much better bet than the middle of our high street area.

Lymore Fields letter

Letter to Bottom of Southdown Road and Blackmore Drive

Blackmore Drive - Lymore Fields - January 2007

Dear Resident,

Lymore Fields safe

We are pleased to report that the house purchased by the Education Department to provide access to the Lymore Fields as a possible
St John's School site is now on the market for sale as a private house. This means the Lymore Fields should now be safe from any development proposals in the future.

The good news for
St John’s School is that the Council has worked hard with the governing body to produce a design that allows the new school to be built at the St Alphege's site.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr Paul Crossley

Cllr Dine Romero

P.S. We hold a regular open surgery for residents on the first Saturday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Methodist Church in The Hollow.
