Sport Rastrick
Congratulates BEN MOUNSEY as Sports Personality of the Year 2007.
Ben Mounsey was presented with the 'Sport Rastrick' Sports Personality of the Year Award at the Holiday Inn at Clifton, Brighouse on Thursday 14th June, 2007 by Michael Clarke, President of the Society of St George in Bradford, Calderdale & Kirklees.
In presenting the award, Mr Clarke said it gave him great pleasure to acknowledge the excellent work Ben has done to encourage and inspire young people to get involved in a sporting activity and a healthier life-style. Not forgetting the recognition of his personal achievements in running and as a fell runner for Calder Valley.
Young people from Rastrick prepared nominations of sporting personalities known to them and with connections to the Rastrick area, and from this list Ben you have been chosen by Brighouse Echo's Sports Editor, David Parker to receive this first presentation of the award. You are a very worthy choice and I hope you will enjoy showing all your family, friends and colleagues this fine trophy. I also hope you will keep up the good work of encouraging more young people, especially from Rastrick, to join your running club. Who knows, in years to come some may end up running not only in Calderdale and Yorkshire but may well run for England too!
In accepting the award, Ben said, I am over the moon to have been both nominated and selected. I first became interested in running when I was studying at Loughborough University. I found it helped me to both enjoy life and get the most out of my studies. I would recommend all young people to take up a sport, it brings much more fulfilment to life than you can imagine.
Ben Mounsey receives his Award from Mick Clarke, President of The Society of St George.
