Council Post Offices

Following a number of newspaper articles, there has been apparently a rush to Essex Council from other Councils to find out more.

One article is linked here. < http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/1/hi/uk/7284758.stm >

There are some certainties in this debate. The Post Office, squeezed by falling Government support is planning to close a great many offices. Many rural sub-postmasters are feeling they are underpaid and exploited. Many people, especially the elderly, feel the loss of cash post office services a great burden.

Councils do not have any spare money to throw at new services, especially those which should be funded centrally. However, when Councils have locations, where overheads are covered and staff are already dealing with cash, they could and should look at adding some services which would have normally been associated with a Post Office. This could be a win-win situation and there are very few of those these days.

I have requested that more detail be investigated and know that Rastrick residents have felt very let down when the local post office was closed.
