August

So it's official. Only half the usual sunshine and twice the average rainfall (BBC weather slot 10pm 27 August). August in the UK.  It's enough to get you down. Especially if you took your hols in June and have had two solid months of colleagues telling you about sun, sand and sangria since. Mind you it's quite difficult to be down in the mouth in North Lincolnshire just at the moment.  It's "lift off " for some big stuff - the new St Lawrence's Academy opens next week, our Building Schools for the Future scheme is reaching a key decision as we move towards selecting our long term partner, the project to replace the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe with a landmark entertainments centre is well underway and the new Sports academy will soon be out to tender. And next week we host some visitors from Jonkoping in Sweden - now there are some people who really do know about grey dull winter days (ie the English August) and how to cope with them. Maybe I can pick up a few tips to help me through what's left of the summer?

PS - bike racing at Oulton Park in Cheshire this weekend - the last but one with the Kawasaki  (a Suzuki lies waiting in the garage at home for the 2009 season). Needless to say the forecast is dull, cloudy with drizzle in the morning.....
