The convenience store week......
Last week was the convenience store week ie each day ran from 7 to 11. North Lincs Council were hosting a party of 9 from Jonkoping Municipality in Sweden who were here at look at the area, including its economy and its education system. Headteachers in the group were twinned with local Heads and we hope that school to school links will follow benefiting staff and students. We are also thinking about other possible cooperation. As part of the programme the group visited ABP at Immingham and the Nisa-Todays facility in Scunthorpe. I was part of that visit and like our visitors was staggered by the scale, complexity and technology that lies behind two of our key local employers. Certainly warehouses aren't what they used to be when I was a student in a summer job 30 years ago. Technology is everywhere making the seemingly impossible of yesterday possible today. The highlight for me was one of the Swedes referring to how much she enjoyed flopadoms at a local restaurant....
The week ended with a resident and citizens drop in session on the new entertainments venue replacing the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe. Sure there were practical issues in the minds of several of the visitors but overall the project got a big thumbs up from those I spoke to.
