Budget council
Amendments_to_Recomns_for_Budget_Council_1_Marrch_2006_Green_Group.doc
Here are our amendments forthe budget meeting. The main focus is on the issue of the amount of money being wasted on preparing for a PFI contract for incineration rather than invcesting in a zero waste strategy. Since we dont hold the balance of power there is little chance of our amendments going through but we can use them to highlight our policies and the mena cuts that are being made in some key areas.
The is also a radical idea of charging for park and ride sites that are ever expanding, sucking the lifeblood out of rural bus services and local shops in villages close to the urban fringe. We also getthe opportunity to have a dig at the ruling group pointing out that while car parking charges in the centre have soared councillors still get free parking -in spite of a recommedation over a year ago by the independent Remuneration Panel that they shouldnt have free passes -council staff lost them in 1998. (Propose to charge councillors £200pa or £100pa for Smart cars for their annual pass - declarations of interest might be interesting to watch here! Could be us and a couple of Labour councillors left in the room...!)
We have already got some press coverage for our proposals - see www.thisisyork.co.uk or this direct link http://archive.thisisyork.co.uk/2006/2/28/339641.html Why not reply and say what you think..? Andy
Welcome from Cllr Andy D'Agorne
This is a new venture for me, having recently been to a conference about e-democracy.
As Green Party councillor for the Fishergate ward of City of York, (pic below) I would welcome any feedback from residents. Those who read the Evening Press will know that I do try to comment on a wide range of issues. If you want to find out go to www.thisisyork.co.uk and search the archive. In the past year or so issues have ranged from Air quality, Bus fares, Councillors parking passes, Trees, The Fulford Place fire, to waste (and the threatened Incinerator).
If you live in Fishergate or anywhere else in York, your comments are welcome either on this site or by emailing me at cllr.adagorne@york.gov.uk If you want to know more about the Green Party have a look at www.greenparty.org.uk, or the local site www.yorkgreenparty.org.uk If you want to try to work out what York Council is up to see www.york.gov.uk
If you want to see what I look, like there's a picture below of me on the Climate Change demo in London on Dec 3rd 2005!
