There is an interesting debate as to whether paying 'carbon tax'to plant trees is enough, since it is only a short term carbon sequestration (until the tree dies or is cut down). It is similar to the debate about if we use renewable energy we are tempted to stop bothering about energy conservation so total energy used actually increases!

I use www.climatecare.co.uk There are several different calculators around.
I am thinking of adding my house use to it as well.
Purists also add public transport travel. However I have decided that supporting public transport is enough without taxing myself on it. The very act of carbon taxing my car journeys though has significantly impacted on my use of my car.
