Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't
It's a funny ol' business this politics. George Osborn, for all his failings, has been making some robust comments about the economy and the way - and this is interesting in itself - Gordon
Brown has been dealing with the global financial meltdown.
I say interesting, because I thought Gordon Brown had stopped being the Chancellor of the Piggy Bank sometime ago and some bloke called Darling was now the mouth piece for that bit of Government. Yet he appears to have been consigned to the back office counting what little money is left in the coffers, whilst the dour Scot tours the world telling everybody how to fix all things financial. No doubt Alistair will very quickly be wheeled back out in to the limelight if Gordon's big idea appears to be going up the spout!!!
Anyway, George O has been accused of talking things down and being 'Mr Negative', by highlighting what is blindingly obvious and exactly what Gordon B kept telling everybody when he was the chief bean counter - spend like a lunatic when you haven't actually got any real money in your pocket and you'll end up paying for it dearly in the future.
One thing's for sure, if George had kept quiet or, dare I suggest, even tried to be supportive, he would have been slated by every journalist from the Beano to the FT for not speaking up and warning us all of the financial follies been visited upon our economic future, as soon as it all did go wrong - damned if he does and damned if he doesn't!
