LICHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL

If you know of any minor repairs needing doing in the St Johns Ward, please let me know. The County Council has organised Community Gangs (Minor Highway Works) I have already reported a few.

LICHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL

Hi folks, holidays over, back to work. My holiday this year was in Germany and my first visit to Berlin. A beautiful City full of not only history but Museums of great interest. My German friend who lived in Berlin many years ago had never been to the East of the Brandenburg Gate. However when she visited the Arboretum in Lichfield District she stood by the memorial to the American airlift and told me she would not be here if it had not been for the food dropped by the Americans. In a church destroyed by bombs in Berlin, was a cross of nails made from Coventry Cathedral. How much we are still learning of our own history.

I stood in silence at a memorial to Ravensbruck where my late husbands Mother and Sister died. We must never forget, but we must remember and do our very best never to have to live through such times again.

Now local news

Monies from 106 agreements are being spent in our ward. Improvemnets to the Shortbutts Lane playing fields will hopefully start soon. There will be tree planting and improvements to the children's play area. I will keep you updated.

LICHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL

I was pleased to read what Mary Reid has written about the Blog, and ICELE. Let us hope we can carry on with our communications. I am giving it a rest during August. However I will carry on with my local news from the end of August.

LICHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL

Delighted the application for an ECO TOWN at Curborough has been withdrawn. Now at least further applications can be considered by the local authority. We need the local knowledge to assess each application on its merits. Not being dictated to by government. Commonsense prevails.

INFORMATION ALERT

Yes the plug is being pulled on our contact to you. We have been encouraged by the government to consult and inform you. Perhaps we have been too honest. So pull the plug and silence your Councillors. More powers are taken from us first by Cabinet now one way we can keep in touch with you is to go. If you wish the service to continue email the Minister. Parmjit.dhanda@communities.gsi.gov.uk

LICHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL

Have you received the Highways Mori poll on Transport?. If so do take time to complete the form. We all need to make our views known on local and National road problems. It is your chance to have your say and make a difference.

INFORMATION

Visiting the St John Street Post Office in Chapel Lane I see they are making improvements to the shop. I trust it will be one of the Post Offices that will be saved. Some bloggers tell us they have been pleased to have closures stopped. Staffordshire County Council and Lichfield City Council are trying to save this one. It really is needed as many frail elderly live close by. The Post Office move in the City centre is not as easy to use now it is in
W H Smiths. Its a long walk to the back of the shop even if you can park near by. When the development of the Friarsgate starts it will be even more difficult. What's your opinion?

LICHFIELD CITY COUNCIL

A very interesting Town Meeting. The case against the City Council plans for a Community Hall was clouded by other comments regarding those matters beyond the remit of the City Council. However some very valid points that can be taken on board when we next discuss the new Darwin Community Hall at full Council, will I am sure be noted and hopefully acted upon. Well dear reader I hope you have a Happy Holiday weekend. I may still Blog as we have a number of activities over the holiday weekend which I may advise you about. Till then Bye.

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Neil Parish MEP, Chairman of the Parliaments Agricultural Committe warned that farmers must finally be allowed to respond to the market. Three years ago wheat was worth 90 Euros, today it is worth close to 270 Euros.rapid price rises is causing concern around the world with Argentina slapping huge export taxes on its agricultural production and politicians in Europe, including both the French and German Agricultural Ministers, have called for a return to direct subsidies for food production. Mr Parrish said our farmers have been champing at the bit to produce food for the past twenty years, but they have been stifled by the bureaucracy of the Common Agricultural policy. We need to free our farmers from government interference, and allow them to do what they do best, producing food.

(I am pleased to hear what  this MEP has said)

INFORMATION

Proposed closure of St Johns Street Post Office in Chapel Lane. Well 'disgusted' you took the trouble to write to the press witholding your name. It is easy to make accusations when you dont know the facts. Why not contact your local Councillors direct and ask what they have done or are doing to help retain a very much needed Post Office. The number of elderly people in the area need the local Post Office. We are told the nearest in town is 0.9 miles. A long way when you are elderly or infirm. Plus how many have cars? If they do how close can they park? There are a number of valid reasons to try our best to retain this service where it is needed. May I ask what have you done to help apart from making political and personal remarks. Put yourself up for election and join the 'Gravy Train' you assume we enjoy.  Unless of course you are the person who has taken around the Petition in which case well done. Did you sign the one in the Post Office? I did.
