LICHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL

At a meeting last night with the Chief Constable and other officers we Councillors were assured that matters of concern would be addressed. In addition communication from our Neighbourhood Watch member gave information on local matters. It seems we are not learning lessons regarding security and property left in our cars. It is a current problem as evidenced by press reports of stolen laptops from cars. While it is difficult to prevent thefts of stereos and  number plates. It is hard to understand why it is so difficult to remove sat navs (59) Laptops (36) Handbags and wallets (18) from vehicles when arriving home, or visiting pubs. This is the number stolen in our District. Come on folk look after your property don't make it easy for thieves. Just think.

CITY COUNCIL

Today I met a young man born in Lichfield who has never visited the Dr Johnson Birthplace Museum. How many residents have not yet had the pleasure of seeing what is a most interesting Museum. A tribute to Samuel Johnson who wrote the first English Dictionary. Grahame Clark the Curator tells me visitor figures have risen. Many overseas visitors take advantage of the FREE entry to visit the Birthplace. The young man in question told me he will now visit and looks forward to seeing the new Video presentation made in 2007.

MY ENTRIES

SAT NAV MADNESS today one of the largest lorries that use our local roads was stuck in Quarry Hills Lane. It appears the driver tried to go up the lane from the Tamworth Road. It is a blind corner and the driver was attempting to reverse without help. I was on my way to keep an appointment and felt it was too dangerous to stop. Or indeed take a photograph. I will report this incident to the Highways and see if a sign can be placed to indicate it is a narrow lane difficult for two cars to pass let alone a lorry. We already have problems at Gorse lane which is at the other end of Quarry Hills Lane.
