EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Neil Parish MEP, Chairman of the Parliaments Agricultural Committe warned that farmers must finally be allowed to respond to the market. Three years ago wheat was worth 90 Euros, today it is worth close to 270 Euros.rapid price rises is causing concern around the world with Argentina slapping huge export taxes on its agricultural production and politicians in Europe, including both the French and German Agricultural Ministers, have called for a return to direct subsidies for food production. Mr Parrish said our farmers have been champing at the bit to produce food for the past twenty years, but they have been stifled by the bureaucracy of the Common Agricultural policy. We need to free our farmers from government interference, and allow them to do what they do best, producing food.

(I am pleased to hear what  this MEP has said)

INFORMATION

Proposed closure of St Johns Street Post Office in Chapel Lane. Well 'disgusted' you took the trouble to write to the press witholding your name. It is easy to make accusations when you dont know the facts. Why not contact your local Councillors direct and ask what they have done or are doing to help retain a very much needed Post Office. The number of elderly people in the area need the local Post Office. We are told the nearest in town is 0.9 miles. A long way when you are elderly or infirm. Plus how many have cars? If they do how close can they park? There are a number of valid reasons to try our best to retain this service where it is needed. May I ask what have you done to help apart from making political and personal remarks. Put yourself up for election and join the 'Gravy Train' you assume we enjoy.  Unless of course you are the person who has taken around the Petition in which case well done. Did you sign the one in the Post Office? I did.

INFORMATION

One crime that has increased locally is the theft of bikes. These have been taken from sheds and garages. Several are children's bikes. Remember to mark bikes with your post code, and use good quality cycle locks. It is also helpful to take a photograph of bikes, to help identification. Theft from vehicles has reduced locally, our message to remove items from cars has worked in our area.
