Belinda Eyre-Brook

This is a sad day for Liberal Democrats in the Borough, as the news gets around that yesterday Belinda lost her long battle with cancer.

Belinda was the local Lib Dems' secret weapon. Thanks to her work on the campaign, Edward Davey was elected to Parliament in 1997, against all expectation and with a majority of 56. At the next election, in spite of being treated for cancer, Belinda masterminded a campaign to convert that to a majority of over 15,000. In two elections she had turned a safe Tory seat into one of the biggest Lib Dem majorities in the country.

Other constituencies have drawn on her expertise, but what they couldn't capture was her extraordinary drive. Even when ill and undergoing therapy she kept the rest of us breathless - she was busy organising the next publication only a week or so ago - and when she was at full strength she was formidable.

At Christmas, Belinda was upbeat as usual, telling everyone "I'M STILL HERE", after a year of heavy treatment interspersed with lots of travel.

Of course, we'll miss her, and our thoughts are with Rob.

As one who was on the receiving end of Belinda's stratagems can I convey my condolences and sadness at her early death.
May she rest in peace!

I was really saddened to hear the news about Belinda, and my thoughts are very much with Rob, and with you all in Kingston who will miss not just her campaigning nouse and energy, but her warm friendship and wisdom too. I
recall the night before I was due to move from Bristol to Kingston to take up the post with the Council group, and had a call from the girl I was supposed to be sharing a house with to say that she was letting the room to a work colleague instead. Belinda, who had only met me very briefly previously said 'come on you can stay with us till you find accomodation' it was typical of her warm generous nature, and I benefited from her wise words, advice and friendship many times since.

I would also like to say how much I will miss belinda. She was an absolute star who always had a smile on her face and was forever generous, kind, brimming with energy and an all-round top lady.
I will miss her and my thought go out to Rob.
