Shortly past midnight I was subjected to a relentless barrage of rocket fire, flashes, bangs and whirring screeches. It was all over within thirty minutes or so. That was the northern zone of Stoke-on-Trent. Over in the northern zone of Gaza, the ghettoised Palestinians were not let off so lightly. For them, the relentless barrage of rocket fire, flashes, bangs and whirring screeches is not only really relentless, but also real! I was reminded of a bold, doubtlessly angry, wall daubing I encountered in Cordoba some years ago. Translated it read, roughly: Jews, you learned your lessons very well from your Nazis teachers. Prayers and powers of people in all forms need to be urgently directed to all who can influence the Israeli government to stop its insane attacks on its Palestinian neighbours. The Stop the War Coalition (www.stopwar.org.uk), the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (www.palestinecampaign.org) and a number of Muslim and Islamic organisations (www.bminitiative.net) have called for a national demonstration in London on Saturday 3rd January, assembling at the Embankment 12.30pm.
