Praise to our School Crossing Patrols

The campaign has been promoted by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.  They were concerned that an increasing number of car drivers do not stop for the Crossing Patrols.

And Then They Came For Me Thursday 25th January 2007

default

This was a very powerful play and performed in a most professional manner by a number of talented young actors.  It aptly marks the Holocaust and Eva Schloss's suffering at the same time giving us an insight to the millions who suffered and died in the concentration camps during the Second World War.

A few words from Nick after the play and question and answers.  Eva has bee presented with flowers.  It must be quite an ordeal for her to go through all the suffering as she tells people her story - I only hope we learn the lessons.

All aboard for the trip from New Addington to Croydon.  This is a very comfortable and reliable means of transport.  We would like an extension to Kingston.

Bed Zed and Little Holland House Visit Wednesday 24th January 2007

default

Bed Zed is a small development of Eco-homes built largely from recycled materials and low energy needs.  It is a pioneering venture from which numerous lessons can be learnt for similar future developments in a bid to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions to combat global warming.

As a contrast we visited Little Holland House, which is a well preserved Edwardian House, the home of Frank Dickinson and his family.  The outside and inside are the original creations of Dickinson and a tribute to the Arts & Crafts Movement.

It was a great pleasure to attend the Kingston upon Thames Society's AGM.  The Society does a very valuable service to the Borough by helping to safeguard historical sites and to give judgement on any new buildings proposed.  For example, the Kingston Society Townscape Awards were given to 7 projects, with special comments for the Performing Arts Centre at Kingston Grammar School.  The new proposals for the Riverside which they call the Canbury Gardens Monster gets the 'Thumbs Down'.

Eva Schloss visits the Mayor's Parlour Wednesday January 2007

There are times when being Deputy Mayor is extremely memorable and a great privilege.  This was one of those events.  To meet Eva Schloss and Nic Careem was indeed an honour.  To listen to Eva talking about her experiences was very moving, the message of which must never be forgotten, no matter what race, creed or colour.
