a busy evening
this evening I went to Dover Joint transport board meeting then to Great Mongeham Parish council.
At Dover Joint transport there was discussion on issues such as winter service policy as well as parking restrictions
At Great Mongeham there was discussion on planning issues as well as the support to the Great Mongeham society so that they could purchase a historic document relating to the parish.
as many members on the council belong to the society, the council had to get a dispensation from the local standards committe to be able to vote on this grant.
Current mood: jet laggedback from Break
I returned from summer holiday and went straight into work.
First task was a scrutiny visit to Ambulance station in Thanet to see how the ambulance service is improving efficiencies for ambulances. We had a tour and presentations on this viatl work.
In the evening I attended the Nonington Parish council where I am keen to support traffic calming in the parish.
Current mood: jet laggedsummer recess but work continues
This morning I went to the great Mongeham drop in
On the way back I went to inspect some gullies that I had raised concerns over.
I was pleased to see that the work had been done and I was lucky to meet the two fellows who were doing this job
I was able to help them locate one gully which looked as though it had been blocked for years
With the summer storms about it is vital that this work is carried out.
A big thanks to Kent Highways
Current mood:
Big-Smiley Environment Highways and Waste Policy overview and scrutiny committee
This morning I went to the Environment Highways and Waste Policy overview and scrutiny committee meeting at county hall.
There was debate on a number of issues including the winter road service policy.
I was disappointed to see that they have no policy on snow fencing as this was a real concern during last winters snow events.
The ongoing road repairs from the snow was also highlighted.
There was also discussion on train services and what steps are being taken to lobby the government and train companies on this issue
Current mood:
Cool Industrial Communities Alliance
This morning I attended a meeting the Industrial Communities Alliance at Copeland Borough Council in Whitehaven.
here was lengthy agenda with the reductions in public expenditure high on the list.
While I accept the need for these savings I am also concerned over their affect on the most vulnerable members of our communities and the Alliance needs to lobby the government to ensure that there is not a disproportionate effect on this section of the community.
I also note that this view is not shared by all my colleagues on the Alliance, some it seems do not not see the need for any savings despite the financial crisis with which we are faced.
