MOORWELL ROAD WEIGHT RESTRICTION REJECTED

Bottesford Town Council, after months of attempting to secure a weight restriction on Moorwell Road, have been informed that this is not to be the case.

The increase in the number of heavy goods vehicles using the residential area to access the South Park Industrial Estate has been a bone of contention for many residents for a number of years.

Disappointingly the Town Council, at their monthly meeting, were in formed that their requests for a restriction had been turned down - the issues of an alternative, credible route and the policing of any change been the reasons cited.

LOCAL ROAD SAFETY SCHEMES A SUCCESS !

Two local road safety schemes have been deemed a success after seeing a significant reduction in accidents at both locations. Moorwell Road and the Chancel Road mini round-a-bouts were equally met with a certain degree of scepticism when first constructed but have, thankfully, proved successful.

Moorwell Road had eight accidents and five casualties in the three years prior to the introduction of its safety scheme in 2002/2003, this was reduced to two accidents and two casualties in the three year period after.

The mini round-a-bout scheme at Chancel Road implemented in 2003/2004 saw its reduction from six accidents and eight casualties in the three year period before to three accidents and four casualties for the three years after.

The application attracted thirty two personal letters of objection in addition to objections from Bottesford Town Council and Environmental Health.

The thirteen strong Committee unanimously voted to 'refuse permission' after carrying out a site visit and listening to the objections of local residents.

PROPOSED BRIDLEWAY - BOTTESFORD BECK

A proposal to develop a bridleway alongside Bottesford Beck, known as the 'Linear Walk', from Messingham Road to Holme Hall Avenue encompassing feature entries consisting of disabled friendly gates has met with differing views from Bottesford's Town Councillors.

Those in favour of the scheme believe it will enhance Bottesford making the facility accesible for a greater number of the community while others fear it may spoil what bit of Bottesford's countryside is left.
