Community
A good community mix tonight. A ward surgery with the local police attending that brought four heads together to try to find a workable solution for a problem. I do hope that the young people who were the centre of the problem will come to the other ward surgery tomorrow. Then the Bishopsgarth Association of Residents where again problems are pooled along with ideas to try to come up with solutions. I won't name the person who asked the Deputy Head of the school for a tip on doing the long division homework he had to go home and help his children with - but it all goes into the sharing pot! Then a good meal and evening at an Indian Restaurant, Cinnamon, near to where we live. This was a fund raiser in aid of the Egglescliffe Parish Hall Association, and what a good idea to raise money and enjoy the food.
Before that we had been to the new Asda Store in Portrack Lane, where John was doing the opening. A far cry from the first Asda, probably the first supermarket, I ever went to in Leeds over 40 years ago ! I recall the excitement of the boxes and pallets piled high in narrow aisles where we could help ourselves. Now there are pristine rows of neatly stacked shelved with plenty of room, especially important for anyone with a disability. I was particularly impressed by the attitude of management to disabled parking bays. They are going to take a very strict line with anyone parking without a blue badge - so watch out! And I hope other supermarkets will follow the lead. It makes for a better community.
