PACT meeting
The first of the Twerton PACT meeting will take place Monday 28th January 2008 at St Michaels Junior School Newton Road 6pm.
Councillors Tim Ball & Gerry Curran are encouraging residents to come along to the meeting and hear what is being said by the Police, Somer Housing, & Bath & North East Somerset Council and to have their say as well.
We hope that the meeting will be constructive and we can come away from the meeting with a prospective as to what residents want to see in Twerton. At this Pact meeting we have included a part of Westmoreland Ward in the Lansdown View estate so if you live in that area then please come along.
We have agreed with our colleges in Southdown to hold a special meeting for the Whiteway estate and we hope to be able to hold this in February.
If you are sceptical as you have heard it all before then please put that behind you and let's see what happens with this one.

Do you know you Neighbours?
Twerton Councillors Tim Ball & Gerry Curran are holding regular meeting with Staff at the Bath Foyer in order to foster a better understanding about what the Foyer is doing and its relationship with the community.
There is a lot of misunderstanding of what the Foyer does and we are encouraging them to communicate more with the community with local newsletters about what they are doing and their purpose.
The link to Bath Foyer website is included here so you can have a look at what they are about and we hope that this will answer many of your questions.
Many young people are in the Foyer through no fault of their own and need help to be able to settle in as they often come with just the clothes that they stand in and little else.
The Foyer is always in need of Pots and Pans & Crockery including knifes & forks to help these young people. Some kind people have recently donated several push bikes that enables them to look for jobs or go to college.
If you have any of these items that you can spare for a young person then please contact Donna Plumb 405004 at Bath Foyer and we know that she will be pleased to hear from you, but please do not offer electrical goods as the law says they can not accept them.
Please help if you can.

Urgent News Council Recycling disrupted
Areas of Twerton have not had their recycling collected due to a problem that the collector has had over the weekend.
There was a break-in at the ECT Recycling depot at Keynsham over the weekend.
The effect of this was that none of the regular round vehicles were available for use on Monday morning.
ECT have managed to borrow a number of vehicles from other areas and have hired some vehicles too but the recycling rounds have been significantly affected due to delay and the fact that these vehicles are not designed to take the range of materials we collect meaning they need to return to tip more often.
New locks are being fitted to the trucks and it is expected that this will be completed on Wednesday.
Around half of Monday's rounds were completed and it is likely that Tuesday will also not be completed, if it is then ECT will return to clear up some of those streets remaining from Monday.
The Council have agreed that, anyone still waiting from Monday or Tuesday on Wednesday will not be done until next week - otherwise the disruption could carry on all week and people may be given promises that can't be met.
The aim is to return to normal service on Wednesday providing the lock repairs are done as scheduled.

New Shops at Twerton Parade
Boots the nationally renounced chemist will be opening a store in Twerton High Street on February 11th. Two units on the Parade in High Street are currently being converted to make a Boots local Store.

With a name like Boots in our local High Street should stimulate more passing trade for our local shops. The current Twerton Pharmacy will close on the same day and the shop that it vacates will be occupied by Genesis Furniture Project an organisation that looks to provide low cost furniture for needy families.
These new stores we hope will help to regenerate our local economy.

Water Water Everywhere
When will it stop raining I hear you all ask? The current weather is causing more that a few problems on our local Roads this evening. The Road surface at the Globe is flooded and so is the bottom of Pennyquick pushing traffic through Twerton High Street.
Due to the bad weather our busses are struggling to meet the strain as they were on Friday where many buses were delayed by quite some considerable time due to the shear volume of traffic.
If you do not need to go out tonight stay in and if you have to drive please take care.

Twerton Ward round up 5th January
Well what a week this has been you would have thought that after Christmas and New Year that things would have gone a bit quiet but NO that is not the way that things happen around here.
We are pleased to be able that new piglets were recently born on the Farm making another attraction worth visiting. Why not visit the farm and make contact with the many volunteers and see if you can do anything to help. The Farm is just off Kelston View in Twerton.

Cllr Tim Ball at the Farm
River Bridge set to Close
The footbridge over the River Avon at Fielding's Road is set to close as of Monday 7th January 2008 and will remain closed for up to 13 weeks for major structural repairs. Alternative routes are via the bus station where we have just had new lights put and Via Windsor Bridge if you really want to walk that far.
New Lights are at the moment being put in along Twerton High Street that we told you about a few weeks ago. This new lighting uses less Power and therefore is better for the environment. The light emitted by these lights is a more pure white light and will be less intrusive in Peoples homes, but will making identification of persons walking the Streets much easier and this will be a crime reduction improvement.
On issues of Crime we will be meeting with the Local Police and residents over the next few weeks in separate street briefings after a spree of anti social behaviour in several areas. If you receive a notification of a street briefing then please come along as only by working together can we quickly resolve these problems.
We have managed to agree with the Police a date for the first Twerton PACT meeting and this will take place at St Michaels Junior School on January 28th at 6.30 Pm to which all Twerton residents are invited. What is a Pact we hear you ask, well a PACT is a meeting of all the agencies like the Police, Somer Housing, Bath & North East Somerset Council and local residents to try to identify problems in an area and find solutions on how to resolve them. So please come along and Join us in what we all hope can be a constructive first meeting.
Housing & Planning Issues.
We have heard that a developer is looking to build 31 new houses on land off of the Hollow above Cotswold View. This area was at one time ruled out from development and we will be taking a close look at this application when it comes in. The area is close to Bath City Farm and was at one time looked at by the farm as important land for allotment use that is in short supply in this area. Let us know what you think on this matter if you know the local area take a look and get back to us.
