Credit crunch: free financial advice for families at Children’s Centres

The Council has commissioned the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to run free drop-in and appointment sessions at the two Children’s Centres in
Odd Down and Twerton.

These sessions will be open to any family, including those who live in other areas of Bath or North East Somerset.

The time leading up to, and after, Christmas can be particularly stressful if families are experiencing financial difficulties or problems with managing their debts. Bath & North East Somerset Council’s eight priorities include better lives for young people and feeling safer.’

This service can to help relieve the enormous stress that financial pressures can put on families. The sessions can also help families who would just like to get advice on financial issues to make sure they do not suffer any problems in the future.”

The CAB has been working together with the Council for four years, and developments of the service are proposed for the future.

Anyone is welcome to find out more by talking to staff at the First Steps Twerton Children’s Centre. For more information please drop in to the centre or contact; 01225 444791. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm. The CAB advisor will be available on Tuesday mornings from December 16. Pre-booked appointments or drop-in appointments will be available.

New Play equipment for local Parks

We have been working with the council to secure new play equipment in two of our local parks and we have got agreement for the funding of new equipment and park layouts at Pennyquick Playing fields and Woodhouse Park ( Redland Park ).

1, Pennyquick playing fields will be enhanced with new equipment for 8 to 13 year old being installed, this will include some remodelling  of some of the present lay out of the sight including the thinning of the trees  by the young children's play area that has been causing concern for some time now. The final designs are being drawn up and the scheme will be installed by the end of March 2009.

2, Woodhouse Park is to have a remake with new fencing and equipment for 8 to 13 year old Children being installed including the use of the bank that is full of brambles at the moment. We have asked that a metal fence is put around the site to prevent vandalism. We have asked that Somer Housing who own this site contribute to ensuring that equipment for younger Children is renewed and updated as we want to encourage this park to be used by the younger children in the area.

All of this works must be in hand by the end of March 2009.

Can we thank the group of 30 men on a stag party event that spent the morning removing and painting out the graffiti at Southside community Centre on 8th November.

This is certainly a new way of having a stag celebration and I we would welcome other like thinking people who want to carry out community projects.

If any one reading this wants to help out the community in any way please let us know or contact the council on 394041
