Charity in Bath Celebrates Being Crowned UK's Best Small Company for Second Year

A charity with a debt counselling centre in Bath was today celebrating following news that it has scooped the prestigious award of Sunday Times Best Small Company to Work For 2009, following its success the previous year.

In an unprecedented development, Christians Against Poverty (CAP), the national debt counselling charity, fought off stiff competition from nearly 1000 other companies to claim the award, meaning that it is the first small organisation to win two years in a row since the Best Small Companies awards were launched six years ago.

The charity has been operating a centre in Bath in partnership with C3 Church Bath and Bristol since 2004 and is helping local residents struggling under the burden of unmanageable debt.

Rob Small CAP Centre Manager in Bath said: "Winning this award is fantastic news not only for us, but also for our clients. Winning two years in a row proves how motivated and enthusiastic we are and we're convinced that this passion, determination and quality are passed on to our clients.

"We pride ourselves on giving clients in Bath and the surrounding area the best possible debt advice and the support that they need to turn their finances and lives around and we are pleased that this award goes some way to show the award-winning service we offer.

"We also want to stress that if there are still people who would like to be helped by the best charity to work for in the UK, we'd be more than happy to help them. Our service is completely free and we work with anyone from the local community, whether they are Christian or not, so I would urge anyone in financial difficulty to contact CAP on 0800 328 0006."

CAP won the award based on responses to anonymous questionnaires that were sent to all employees. Responses to questions surrounding many aspects of working environment, including ongoing training, career prospects and quality of leadership placed the Christian charity above the competition.

97 per cent of respondents felt proud to work for CAP, with 93 per cent also stating that working for the charity was good for personal growth. In addition, 99 per cent felt that the company made a positive difference to the world we live in.

Matt Barlow, UK Chief Executive, said: "To win this award last year was a fantastic achievement, but to win two years in a row is simply outstanding. Our staff are on the frontline of dealing with society's biggest problem so creating a fantastic working environment is the least we can do to support them as they change lives.

"The results we got from the anonymous questionnaires have given us much to celebrate and we're thrilled that we can pass on this expertise and enthusiasm to all the people we help in Bath."
